As with many small businesses around the nation, Balance will be closed Monday, September 4th, 2017, in observance of Labor Day.

Do you love this federal holiday? Well, then you should probably send a thank you note to the city of Chicago for tipping the hand of congress in 1894. At least, that’s one story that was put forth by Arthur Delaney, including an entertaining video by Christian Nillson.

Regardless of what prompted the day, it is important to honor and celebrate the men, women, and children who at one point in time were forced to work without breaks, in poor conditions, and handed meager wages had finally had enough. Their actions then led to the protections and rights that we all enjoy today.
